Learning how to grow in God’s love before you go anywhere makes the world of a difference – literally.
Imagine planting a fruit tree from a small seed and taking care of it every day. Beyond watering that tree, it also needs other nourishment in different seasons. Although, fruit trees will bear fruit over their first few years, they must be pruned to develop growth and stay healthy. Each season of growth requires different levels of care.
Whether you’re mature in your faith and ability to love, or this is a brand-new concept, each of us has room to grow in the season we are in right now. It’s the perfect time to live fully loved and give that love to a world in such desperate need.
It’s impossible to pour out of an empty glass. And, if we’re honest, most of us walk around empty every day. Or even worse… we walk around so completely full and unwilling to share that we never reap the benefits of giving it away and refilling on bigger and better things!
Learning how to balance the love we fill up on and the love we pour out can be difficult. Some of us are naturally prone to focus on ourselves as first priority, while others may find it easier to focus on every one else and put themselves last. But, the beauty in learning the balance of this – how to fill up so we can pour out – is to keep us growing in God’s love, while bearing the fruit that comes naturally – making it a win for everyone.
See, when we share the fruit that we bear, that’s when healing and blessings begin. The purpose isn’t to ask god for all of these wonderful things to keep for ourselves. But, to experience the true joy and contentment of being exactly who God called us to be, living loved and loving well!
11 When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. 12 Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.1 Corinthians 13:11-13 NLT
13 Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.
It takes love to know love.
How can we learn to grow in love before we go into the world every day?
Here are 3 ways to start planting the seeds of spiritual growth in your relationship with God…
Spend time in prayer – to trust his love.
Prayer is more powerful than you can ever imagine, until you encounter it.
God moves in mysterious and miraculous ways, most of which we will never be able to grasp. However, we can learn to trust him and his love once we start communicating with him and reaping the benefits of answered prayers.
Much like any conversation, prayer takes time. The more intentional and consistent you are in spending this time with him, the closer your relationship becomes.
God’s response isn’t always inevitable, timely (according to my preference) or what I want to hear. However, the more I spend time praying with God, the more I get to know him, trust him, and live peacefully knowing that his ways are much better for me than anything I can imagine.
Read God’s word – to receive his love.
We have to learn how to receive God’s love before we can give it away. The good news is, God already loves us! All we have to do is learn how to accept this gracious gift.
His word is full of promises that remind us of how much he loves us. He not only tells us through the many authors in the bible but also in parables. Reading God’s word can start with one scripture written on your mirror, a daily devotional, bible APP, and more.
“I have always loved you.”– Malachi 1:2 NLT

“Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.”– Ephesians 4:15-16 NLT
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.– Ephesians 3:16-17 NLT
